Superintendent and with the consent of the labourer, the employer will

pay to the labourer minimum wages of 13 cents for work on the surface

and of 15 cents for work underground, per hour or part thereof.

IV.1. The employer shall pay to the labourer wages of sixty five cents

per diem for work on the surface and of seventy five cents per diem

for work underground, which wages, when working on a day-task or piece-

work or contract work, will form the basis for the calculation of the wages to be paid to the labourer for the last named services unless other wages have been fixed for same in this contract, however, with the proviso that these minimum wages shall be increased in proportion, in case the labourer has done more work than stipulated for work ing

on day-task or on piece-work.

2. Payment will be effected as follows:

3. The wages due to the labourer shall be paid to him either monthly, half-monthly, weekly or daily, in the discretion of the Superintendent. 4. If the wages are paid monthly, at the request of the labourer,

part of the wages shall be paid half-monthly.

5. The employer shall have the right to pay part of the labourer's

wages as follows:

By supplying rice of good quality, in a quantity sufficient for the subsistence of the labourer and his family for half a month at most, or in rice of good quality and in a quantity as fixed by the Head of the Goverment of the Residency, together with a sufficient quantity of other food-stuffs, at such a price that no profit is being made on same by the employer; or

otherwise by supplying complete, prepared food, at the price of 30 cents daily.

6. It is understood that the labourer shall be also entitled to daily wages on the holidays and the festive days stipulated in the contract as also, if he is able and willing to work, for the time his services have not been made use of by the Superintendent or his staff, or in case the latter were not permitted to make use thereof. This contingency is to be decided upon by the Head of the Local Government
